THE QUESTION: Does a 1 game 1st round playoff series make more sense to shorten the playoffs from running into November…?
THE QUESTION: Is the Apple Cup (Washington v. Washington St) the worst College Football Rivalry…? If not, state a worse one…?
RICKEY HENDERSON…NOT UNANIMOUS
THE QUESTION: Why was he not a unanimous selection for the Hall of Fame…?
‘The Inquisitor’ Commentary: How could a guy who could quite possibly be regarded as one of the top 10 baseball players ever be left off 28 writers ballots, including one this blog is based on (Corky Simpson)…? And this is the problem I have with MLB and the Hall. The writers have absolutely no criteria for choosing who makes it and who doesnt. And the fact that Rickey numbers speaking for themselves (10 time All Star, 1990 MVP, 12 time Stolen Base Leader, MLB All Time Stolen Base Leader, MLB All Time Runs Leader) and not to mention he redefined the Leadoff Hitter role and was an amazing Left Fielder. These people that do the voting are suppose to scrutinize over potential candidates…but if the voter of this story was simply going to vote for Rickey because he played for 9 teams, that doesnt sound like much to go on.
THE QUESTION: Is Tiger Woods the most important athlete (in terms of coverage, sponsorship, fan interest) to his sport in the world…?
‘The Inquisitor’ Commentary: I don’t think there is any doubt that Tiger is the most important athlete to any sport on the planet at this time. Just his visibility on the course today for the first time in over 8 months has to be giving golf tournament directors and sponsors, as well as tv network execs hard-ons because of his draw to the sport. There isn’t anyone in the same stratosphere on the greens with Tiger (evident by the fact that in the 8 months without him on the tour no one did anything to stand out at all) and just the visibility he brings the common person and non-golfer to the sport is unquestionable. I don’t golf at all but I turned on this morning to watch his comeback first shot. It not even a question he’s the most relevant athlete here in the US. I mean basketball would survive without LeBron or Kobe. Football would survive without Peyton or Brady. Baseball would survive with A-Roid or anyone else. But even on the world stage, I would agrue that Tiger is more visable and marketable than any soccer star like Ronaldo or anyone else. Tiger is THE ATHLETE on the planet.
THE QUESTION: Isnt this the best athletic event season of the year…?
‘The Inquisitor’ Commentary: Oh, hands down. I love all sports…but there is nothing…nothing like March Madness. Every year we get to this point of March and you have ‘The Tournament,’ and whether you agree with the selections or the “snubs” every year, its decided on the court and not by computers like college football. It’s great debate every year to talk about how the small schools get left out, too many big power conference schools in, the amazing shots, the close games, the “cinderella” teams, everything. March Madess is exactly that…madness. 6 games, single elimination, get you the championship. Sounds easy…but its not. Play one bad game and your done. Having a great little guy (point guard) is generally more important than having great big man. Great coaches who are great motivators generally more valued that just a great recruiter of talent. And its the one opportunity where good individual players can sometimes put themselves on the national stage and showcase themselves in front of America. So, the most exciting month of sports is here…bring it on…!
THE QUESTION: Do you know who this woman is…?
‘The Inquisitor’ Commentary: Dont know…? Ok, here is a little hint…
Her name…Cheyenne Woods…and she’s Tiger’s niece. She’s only 18, a freshman in college, and ranked #100 out of 2000 collegiate women golfers. She plans to turn pro after college which basically means that Michelle Wie has a little over 3 years left to start winning before she gets blown off the map.
‘The Inquisitor’ Commentary: Congrats to Kobe and the LA Lakers…2009 NBA Champions…! It has a great sound to it as well. I have been waiting for this day (yesterday) for the last 7 years since the last championship in 2002. It has been a long, tough, difficult wait as well. To see the dynasty getting broken up, see Phil Jackson leave and come back, Shaq traded, loss to the Celtics last year and so much more…it was tough indeed. But now, they have reached the mountaintop again and reclaimed the title as world champion and they are indeed the best team in the NBA now. So great to see…!
